Random Blind - The New New!

This blind was crafted due to picking up the new Makers Mark Wood Finishing Series "The Heart Release" as well as the Old Louisville Maple Finish Uncut.

The blinds ranked from first being best to fourth being last.

  1. Makers Mark Wood Finishing Series "The Heart Release"

  2. Old Forester 1924

  3. Coopers Craft 100

  4. Old Louisville Maple Finish Uncut

The Makers Mark WFS was for sure the best. Sweet all around but not all in your face. Just the right amount of proof to carry the taste through a nice long finish. The nose, palate, and finish were superior to the rest.

Old Forester came in second. The nose was subtle but the taste was complex and super smooth. Notes of cherry caramel and vanilla came through and lasted through the finish.

Coopers craft coming in a close third. This is such a great budget bottle that holds the proof and flavor characteristics that expensive whiskeys hold. Such an excellent bottle coming in with caramel, charred oak, and more.

Lastly, Old Louisville Maple Finished uncut came in last. Was super bummed about this one. The proof is there, so is the age statement of 8 years, but man.... the taste has an off putting metalic like note that drives me away. You can definitely taste notes of the maple which makes it a bit better, but I can not get over that metallic note.

Random Blind - Makers Mark Goodness

This blind was crafted because I received three new Makers Mark releases. I already had the French Oak so the blind was created!

Rankings from best to worst....

  1. Makers Mark Wood Finishing Series "The Heart Release"

  2. Makers Mark Private Selection Spring Berry Crumble

  3. Makers Mark French Oak

First off, these are all great bottles. I LOVE Makers Mark and have not tried a bottle from them yet that has been bad. The WFS was definitely the best overall, in every category. That Spring Berry Crumble was the runner up. This bourbon had a nice sweet aroma with the taste being close to a berry pie. You could almost taste the pie crust, then some fruit forward notes ending with a bit of the french spice on the finish. The Makers Mark French Oak came in last, however a GREAT budget bourbon. The french oak adds what I call a "SUPER sweet" note to the taste. Can be off putting to some, but I personally love this note. Overall, a GREAT blind!
